I have a modified JPM ("the original") short rod from way back. It had a modified thread to fit a Hurst Mustang 5-speed knob. That combination buzzed at certain revs, primarily accelerating in 1st & 2nd gear. I tried all sorts of things, 'til finally I filled the thread cavity in the knob with mastic pulled from a sound-dampener tile. That fixed it and it hasn't been back for 10+ years.

So yes, it's caused by resonance in the knob/threads!

I missed that one. Mastic??

How about 3m tape jammed in there?

It seems odd that a thread locked with a jam nut would rattle. Maybe the mastic added enough mass to get the assembly away from resonance?

There wasn't much mass. I think it just filled the resonant cavity. (??)

Well, possibly. But, as above, you probably need to fill the space.

Mine had no jam nut. BUT, it was very firmly tightened against a customized thickness washer on top of the lever rod, such that the gear pattern was straight. (the 'customizing' was done with a hammer and anvil ;))

Yeah. Scones are also delicious. Learned to like them when I lived in NZ. Date scones were also superb.
And, cream is the standard thing for us to mix with jam too! It's just perfect.

Clotted cream??? You wait for it to go bad then eat it?? Sounds kind of like vegemite. I had some once. It was TERRIBLE. Although smashed peas and brown sauce is not that bad.

Actually they cook it to make it thicker and slightly sour. Sounds interesting to me. Although I like fresh cream especially if you whisk it to make it thicker and foamy. Delicious.

Must be a Brittish thing. I find that a lot of foreign foods that are much beloved by other cultures are not something I enjoy. The "worse" was a rotten egg with a dead baby chicken inside it. Had I not been somewhat inebriated at the time it is an experience I would have avoided.

Yuck. What culture does that come from? Vietnam?

Something we eat almost everyday here, and that many people from other cultures find disgusting due to the colour and texture, is black beans.

Part of getting older for me is a reluctance to eat any bean. Though i love them, the after effects make me not pleasant company, sometimes for days.

Black Beans...

And over wild rice. Maybe a little left over steak, at the time of your grilling, mixed in.

Yum!

Imagine butter blended with extra-thick cream. That's an approximation of what it tastes like. It's very rich!

Yes, they cook it, but there's no sourness in it (maybe you got an 'off' batch?)

Hmm, "sour" may not be the correct word, it is kind of a very rich milk taste? I agree it's a good combination for strawberry or other berry jams.

Beano + GasX

Rapid decompression of aircraft can cause severe effects on the human body. That is why air crew and troops that are going to be flying soon adjust their diet. It can literally "blow you up"
