Have heard similar noises from a GTO manual. I doubt there's anything drastically wrong with your car.

Just for interest, is your car a Limited Slip or an Open Differential?

Clunk

HERE IS SOMETHING I GOT FROM A GM BULETINE
Information on Driveline Clunk Noise When Shifting Gears At Low Speeds

Models: 2006 Pontiac Solstice
with AISIN AR5 Manual Transmission (RPO MA5)

A Pontiac Solstice equipped with a manual transmission may exhibit a clunk noise when shifting gears at low speeds. The noise may be present during low speed driving maneuvers, such as driving in stop-and-go traffic or in parking lots, which require declutching and shifting.

Some amount of driveline clunk is normal due to the design characteristics of the driveline system. While some owners may find the clunk noise objectionable, it will not adversely affect durability or performance.

Whenever there are two or more gears interacting with one another, there must be a certain amount of clearance between those gears in order for the gears to operate properly. This clearance can translate into a clunk noise whenever the gears are loaded and unloaded quickly. Comments of driveline clunk are usually not the result of one individual component, but the result of clearance present in all of the driveline components.

Because all components in the driveline have a certain amount of clearance by design, changing driveline components may not result in a satisfactory noise reduction.

Many moon ago I owned a T-Bird Turbo Coupe 5-spd that did this coming on or off throttle. It occured when the rotational spin of driveshaft would increase or decrease and you would here a clunt at that moment. Ford got a a lot of complaints about it but it wasn't a serious mechanical problem, just annoying!

My Miata has clunked into second gear from the first day I owned it. At first it was annoying and I was concerned, but with time I learned to dial out the sound. 88,000 miles later the clunk is still there but I've never had a problem.

THIS FORUM IS THE BEST!!!
WOW!
This type of information ROCKS... Someone asked if we will still visit the forums after the SOL arrives...

YES

i had an 88 nissan 300ZX that did that, and i was concerned at first, but i was told it was drivetrain lash, and that it was ok. that was my first front engined rear wheel drive car, well hell it was my first front engined car, so every thing was different to me.

We first 1K owners just consider ourselves on the bleeding edge of technology so everyone else can be on the leading edge.

"Clunk" in shifting from first to second gear!

Hey everyone...LISTEN UP! This is from Vin # 725 Owner
There is a problem in shifting and there is a RECALL for ALL the Solstice's delivered! I was at my dealer yesterday and he told me he had some BAD news for me. My car, that was shipped 8/26/2005, was going back to the factory for "shifting" problems! He did state, and read, a RECALL notice from GM on his PC! He broke my heart, but I'd rather have it right from the start than going back to the dealership. I really thought by having a higher number that all the "kinks" would have been worked out. Everyone hang in there! :( :( :yesnod: :yesnod: :yesnod: :willy: :willy: :grouphug: :grouphug:

This appears to be a broadcast on GM systems that says not a problem?
