So, with this hardtop, you get the look of a kammback/shooting brake but with none of the practicality?

Also, this car is just begging to have its A pillar/windshield surround wrapped in yellow. The silver paint looks really out of place with the hardtop.
Even mentioning "practicality" in association with a Kappa seems a little wrong.

Whoa, and the free press just keeps on giving on this Edag topped Solstice. Now featured in Carscoops.

Pontiac Solstice GXP Nomad With Rare Concept Top Might Be A Deal At $22,900
BY STEPHEN RIVERS | POSTED ONOCTOBER 25, 2022

The Pontiac Solstice GXP is one of the last great cars that the American automaker built before it folded. Now, one of those cars with low mileage is up for sale for less than the cost of a new Chevrolet Camaro. And this one has an ultra-rare Nomad-style hardtop for added utility.

Listed over on eBay and on dealer ThrottleStop’s own website, the Solstice GXP in question has an asking price of only $22,900. That’s a few grand cheaper than a new Camaro (which also has a four-cylinder engine) but the Chevy isn’t nearly as rare. Just over 13,000 Solstice GXP convertibles were produced by Pontiac and according to ThrottleStop, only 40 have this shooting brake-eque conversion that mimics the looks of Chevy’s 2004 Nomad Concept.

On top of its rarity, this Solstice has quite a lot going for it. Under the hood is a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that’s factory-rated at 260 hp (193 kW). That’s a lot more than the standard Solstice which developed just 177 hp (132 kW). Those ponies are fed to the rear wheels only through a five-speed manual transmission.

When it arrived on the scene it boasted a record for the most horsepower per cubic inch in any engine GM had developed. This car also features a clean Mean Yellow exterior paint and 18-inch polished aluminum five-spoke wheels at each corner. The interior features black leather upholstery along with desirable options like the Convenience package and the Preferred Equipment package.

From what we’ve found, the kit on this car was produced by a German company called EDAG. The listing says that the car includes the soft top convertible and tonneau with hardware. Whether or not that includes the rear decklid we can’t be sure. But it sounds as though this Solstice could easily be returned to drop top status without too much effort.

Ultimately, it’s not so special that we’d call it a full-blown collectible but adding this little sports wagon to your garage would certainly add some flair. For the time being, it’s located in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin but from the photos, it doesn’t look like it has any visible signs of life up north. Hopefully, the next owner will continue that good record of care.

Did they ever put up the under chassis photos? They never got back with me on that, just raised the price 3.5K. I couldda been a buyer. At this point a car in the garage is worth two in WI. ;)

Send them a message via Ebay asking for floorpan pics, maybe they'll be more responsive. BTW, I see Carscoops didn't pick up on the minor damage to the driver side front fender. I wonder if they raised the price due to the view count.

i had inquired about buying this car way back when it was first listed. i asked if they would arrange shipping, they said i would have to arrange it myself. so, i lost interest...

I know I'm beating a dead horse here but my thinking is that good press like this brings continued interest to the Kappa platform. It's also a good reminder to GM CEO (and GM Board of Directors) that they F-up dropping the Kappa platform. :devilish: Currently 157 watchers on Ebay w/12 days left to bid @$22,900.

Rare 2007 Pontiac Solstice GXP Nomad Hardtop Is A True Unicorn Find

Only 40 of these unique roof designs were made. Here's your chance to buy a Pontiac Solstice with one of them at a remarkably low price.

A premium dealership in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, has listed an unlikely unicorn dating back to 2007. The Pontiac Solstice GXP seen here is fitted with one of 40 Nomad Concept Hardtops that took to the stage at SEMA that year, which gives the sporty roadster a shooting brake finish, much like the BMW Z3 M Coupe. One of the last of its kind was the relatively costly Ferrari GTC4Lusso, but this was sadly discontinued earlier this year.

Other than the roof, the only other special aspect of this car is that it only has 27,046 original miles on the odometer. This example is finished in Mean Yellow with 18-inch polished alloy wheels and black leather upholstery. It is also been very generously kitted out with features as it includes an electrically adjustable driver's seat, convenience package, premium package, and preferred equipment package.

Throttlestop, the dealer offering this rare creation, confirms that the unique car is also being sold with a soft-top convertible and tonneau with the relevant hardware if you feel like getting some wind in your hair. As for the drivetrain, like the rest of the Solstice GXP range, this is powered by GM's Ecotec LNF turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine driving the rear wheels via a five-speed manual transmission.

All of this can be yours for $22,900, which is a bit less than the roadster's starting price of $27,115 back in 2007, without the exclusive hardtop. For some reference, the hardtop was inspired by the 1955 Pontiac Nomad, a shooting brake variation of the Safari wagon. It was not designed by Pontiac but rather by a Swiss-based engineering company known as EDAG.

Although there are modern hardtop convertible cars such as the Mazda MX-5 Miata RF, there is nothing quite like this interesting find that exists in the new car market today, which we think is a tragedy as it looks like a perfect blend of convenience attached to a quirky but not hateful body style.

At this price point, we wonder whether this might be one of the most reasonable used purchases we've spotted in recent years. A 2.4-liter Solstice with 192 original miles was sold for $86,500 just two years ago. The mileage may not be as low, but this example is far more obtuse. The Pontiac moniker has been making a fair storm in the affordable classic car market, with Burt Reynold's iconic Trans Am also fetching a surprisingly low price just a few months ago.

My 2007 gxp auto transmission with 38,000 cost $11,900 so that seems like it's overpriced. If it was me I'd do some shopping around. I've seen them go a lot cheaper. The problem with buying a car at a auction is people get auction fever and over bid. I've seen it happen a few times at a local auction house. I've bought a couple old chevy muscle cars at auctions but I research what other similar cars are selling for and I set a limit on how high I'll go. I've seen people pay way more than they should, some people keep bidding to stupid prices just because they have to win, like it's a contest or something.

Aftermarket hardtops are relatively rare for our platform.
Aside from the one-offs i believe your options are Norm (maybe), EDAG or a used Smoothline.
So there arent a lot of choices out there and though a shooting brake style top has a more limited aesthetic audience, there are so few of them i am willing to bet they are worth a lot more (especially fully equipped and functional) than a couple grand.
Just my opinion….

I would rather pay the extra for a factory hardtop coupe. I don't like the nomad style top, personally I think it's ugly but that's just my opinion

But I'm happy with the convertible, I enjoy top down driving except on really hot days but even then I turn on the AC full blast and wear sunblock.

I'm not sure I'd buy a hardtop, a factory hardtop is pretty damn expensive.

I wanted to post this because I've never seen a yellow Edag topped Solstice befire. . . . . . . .

I did not compare the photos yet, but could this be the same one as that Edag displayed in their booth during various US auto shows ?
